Each year Pit Bulletin Legal News Network presents the Wallace Award to an individual that brings positive attention for pit bull type dogs and generates an atmosphere of change throughout the year. The Wallace Award was named after our very own Wallace the Pit Bull, who was the inaugural recipient in 2012.
Since the award is named after Wallace, and we at Wallace the Pit Bull Foundation want to help support efforts that improve the lives of dogs and the people who care for them, we plan on adding a little something to the award given by Pit Bulletin Legal News Network this year. Besides the much deserved recognition and gratitude, Wallace the Pit Bull Foundation will donate $1,000 to the dog related charity of the recipient’s choice! We are also making this retroactive and will be donating $1,000 to the charity of choice for each of the previous recipients, Rebecca Corry and Lori Weise.
Rebecca’s donation will go to the Stand Up for Pits Foundation, which currently funds a dogfighting tip line in the Los Angeles area. SUFP Foundation also produces live events that raise funds and bring awareness to end dog fighting, abuse, and discrimination across the country. And we can’t forget the historic 1 Million Pibble March that brought thousands of people together on the West Lawn of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
Lori’s donation will be going to Downtown Dog Rescue, which on top of running a shelter of their own, operates an amazing Shelter Intervention Program, also in the Los Angeles area. The efforts of Downtown Dog Rescue has resulted in thousands of pets (mostly dogs) staying in their current homes instead of being relinquished to the shelter. Lori also just released a book that helps others set up shelter prevention programs in their area as well.
We’re happy to support these organizations, and thank them for their continued efforts!
